This is a contents page used in ‘VIBE’ magazine. The title used is bold and white contrasting with the gradual colour change from black to white/cream. The text used is a lot bigger than other text found on this page. The model used, in this case, is used on both the cover and the contents page to keep the theme of this specific artist throughout the magazine. In this issue they have used an artist which will appear to their readers, for this issue, Ciara. Ciara is a female hip-hop/r + b artist known worldwide, and for this magazine she has probably been used to discuss some recent press or news currently rumouring. The space on the page has been used carefully and the negative space around the image has been used to display text and content features. Black text has been put upon a white/beige background, used to clarify the text. The text is important here, and was chosen specifically, as this style of text will have been used in every other issue. The colours used are quite neutral and contrast well with the text colours used. Although there are no attracting bright colours, the contrast of text and background makes each part you’re drawn to stand out.
NMEThis contents page is used in an ‘NME’ magazine. The text colour for ‘NME’ in most issues is shown in red so for this issue they have stuck to their usual trend. Text upon a black background is sown with either white or red text; this makes the text stand out for the rest of the page. So this technique is used for the title at the very top of the page. A band index is displayed on the left hand side for a quick indication of where they can find the articles and features they want. This is placed on the left hand side as it is the first thing you view when turning the page. In this example pictures used in further articles and features have been put, at a smaller scale, on the contents page. Black background headers are again used for titles and subheadings and used with a blending white text contrasting with the usual white background. More important text, in this case ‘ The UK’s No 1 GIG GUIDE STARTS p58’ is highlighted using white and red, eye-catching colours. On this contents page another important part of the text has been highlighted by using a colour not otherwise used in the page. For this contents page ‘Subscribe today…’ has been shown in yellow.
